i want to embed google earth in a course, but when i pase the code provided by google it doesnt work. i only want the map to appear, not the entire web page

What kind of technology used in code provided by Google? Flash or smth else? Maybe you can place the full page in IFRAME object?

Its javascript, the functions are in a couple of scripts that hold the links into the API. These need statements to declare where they are in the page header.
