logic of slides and frames
  View type:
Hi everybody!

I have a question in connection with the logic of slides and frames. Although I have read through the manual and already created a course, I haven't managed to get the point in what frames are good for. The reason is that whenever I add more frames to a slide, I cannot see those frames and their content when I check how it looks in the browser...[]Only slides appear...so no vertical hierarchy is displayed.

I hope it can be understood what my problem is[:D]

Thanks a lot!

I posted a prototype in My CourseLab (URL: http://www.courselab.com/db/cle/7DCB940456CCC473C3257842006DF619/courses.html), that demonstrates how you could use multiple frames/slide to "branch" (not a branch in its true sense, but not too bad either). Hoping this might help answering the "what good are frames for?" question.
Cheers, Razvan :-)

Hi Razvan

Nick has a site (friendsofcourselab.com) with hints, tips and examples.
Maybe you want to send him the source with some explanation so he can put it on his site?
[:)]

I didn't realize it was the same Nick ;-)
Good suggestion, I'll contact him. By the way, the URL is friendsofcourselab.info (not .com). Thanks, Razvan :-)
Hmm (couple of minutes later)... Nick, if you see this, how can I get in contact with you? My email is razvan.radulian@why-what-how.com. Thanks (again), R:-)

Yep the same one Razvan.
I do keep meaning to add a wikki with the manual chopped up into smaller sections so that registered users can add to it but 've been tied up with building a few projects and playing with a nice LUA RAD (Auto Play Menu Studio) doesn't do learning but capable of making very nice apps.
njames@gotadsl co uk (add the .'s) can handle big attachments.
Make sure there are plenty of comments so that the content is easy to follow.

Oops, realized I've shared an iron-coin for the SPAM-magnets (full-format email address), after I posted it. Anybody knows who can remove that?
Nick, I know what you mean, I've been over-my-head in projects lately... I'll do my best to follow your recommendation and sent you the example. Though, it might not be right-away. :)

Razvan,
for having removed your emailaddress contact Slav Shchinov, mail him at support@
Worked for me many times ;)

Hi Ildi, you want to look at sequencing in SCORM 2004 which is where these become very useful.
Courselab does support this but it is one of the least documented features it has. Even the developers will tell you that it is difficult to work with!

Thank you for the quick reply![:)]
Can you suggest something how I can make the frames visible then when I have a look at the course...? Why aren't they displayed?
Coz if I understand well, these are the vertical elements of structuring a course material: modules, chapters, and then if I want to break it down further I can use slides and then frames(<--- as the smallest building blocks).
Personally, I prefer ExeLearning's logic, I'd like to make some arrangement similar to that, but right now I have to use Courselab...
So that's why I'm insisted on this question and I really need to find a solution to it.[:D]

Thanks again!

Hi Ildi,

The reason you can not see your frames is that you need to set the Display timer of the Advance option.
This timer is set to 0.0 by default
To set the Display timer do the following,
- After inserting your frames
- Click on the View button on the menu toolbar and Tick or select Frames
- The Frames pane will appear at the bottom of your Course Lab window
- Select each frame by right mouse clicking on the frame at the bottom of the screen then select Advance and change the display to whatever time you like the frame to be displayed for 1.0 = 1 second.

As for your question about what frames are good for? Frames could be used for so many reasons and different purposes.
As an example, if you are creating a demonstration of (let's say) How to use a browser...and you want the user to watch your istruction without interacting with the movie, then you can put each image on a different frame and use the text boxes to create your instructions then set the timer of each frame to create a movie.

Hope I answered some of your questions.
Dan
