What's new in version 2.3

CourseLab 2.3 is a further development of version 2.2 and includes all its functionality. But it also includes a lot of improvements and new features. And, of course, CourseLab 2.3 is compatible with your CourseLab 2.2 course source files.

List of major improvements

  1. Edit Time improvements:

    • Slide Comments are added. Slide Comments is additional text block that can be attached to the Slide. It can contain author's comments and remarks to the Slide, or comments to the Slide that imported from PowerPoint presentation.
    • Main Module Objective is defined from the creation of Module.  Basic completion statuses of main objective are predefined.
    • All Objects that have language-dependent messages and/or buttons become fully customizable.
  2. Run-time improvements:

    • Opera and Safari support added (limited to Opera 9+ and Safari 3+ Win).
    • SCORM 2004 interactions are supported  in full scale 
    • Plain text and numbers parameters in Actions can contain variable values and object properties.
    • Some Rich Text objects got ability to substitute variables and object properties with their valuesautomatically.
    • PRINT action added.
  3. New objects added:

    • Click Area type of objects is used for defining transparent click area anywhere on the Frame. Transparent by default, click area can be made visible (and blinking) using object methods. This may be useful, for example, to highlight click area in case of incorrect click.
    • Notifier type of objects is used to attract learner's attention to the part of the Frame. There are three different shapes, which can be used as (optionally blinking) notifier: arrow, transparent rectangle with visible corners and colored transparent rectangular area.
    • IFRAME object is used for opening an external web-content (from file or distant server) into the area on the Frame.
    • Bulleted List object is used for creating sequentially appearing list of statements.
    • Simple List object is used for creating sequentially appearing list of statements.
    • Comments object enables to automatically display comments to the current Slide that defined by the author (or imported from PowerPoint).
    • Comments Tab object enables to automatically display comments to the current Slide that defined by the author (or imported from PowerPoint).
    • Simple Text Box enables placing the desired text into the box with optional border and different scrolling settings. Compared to embedded regular text box, this Text Box enables using scrolling and special effects for text occurrence. Object is capable of variable and property substitution.
    • Title-Slide Popup button and window can appear on the Title-Slide and may be useful for providing descriptions or help instructions. 
  4. Existing objects updated:

    • Gradient Area – no more “Internet Explorer only“. Gradient fill is available for use in other browsers too.
    • All Form Controls (Text Field, Hidden Text Field, Text Area,  Checkbox, Group of Radio Buttons and  Drop-down Menu) are revised to implement new Methods and Events. Input values are available as Object Properties.
    • Standard List is revised to implement NEXT ITEM method, display start time is synchronized with Frame Timeline, Object Properties are available. Effects are available in browsers, other than Internet Explorer.
    • Flash-movie – two additional source types are added to existing Local file: URL and Code. Now you can display Flash-movies from other servers and from YouTube-like services.
    • Video clip - additional source type is added to existing Local file: URL. Now you can display movies from other servers. A large number of object events, methods and properties are added.
    • Most of Navigation Objects got new Object Methods and Properties.
    • All Question Objects got new Object Methods, Events and Properties.
    • Test Object got new Object Methods, Events and Properties.
    • Current Results objectgot REFRESH method. Current objective’s scores (raw, scaled and maximal) can be used as Object’s Properties.
    • Results By Objectives object got REFRESH method.
    • Simple Text Box can utilize scrolling. Object is capable of variable and property substitution. A large number of object events, methods and properties are added.
  5. New Templates added

    • New Import templates are optimized for PowerPoint import.
  6. Numerous bugs fixed.
