Can anyone here recommend a simple SCORM compliant LMS I can install on a laptop to test modules?

They are both free and can be hosted in Linux or Windows (WAMP).

I'd go for a full installation of moodle/atutor/dotnet or whichever takes your fancy. These aren't simple but they are competent and featured.
If you just want to play the scorm pacakge in a simpe environment then you might like to have a look at VSSCORM http://www.vsscorm.net/run-time-environment-rte/run-time-environment-downloads/
