Publish to AICC and use in Adobe Breeze/Connect Training?
  View type:
I am trying out CourseLab as it seems to be the only free authoring tool that publishes to AICC. I was hoping to upload the published course to my Adobe Connect (formerly known as Breeze) Training system for hosting/tracking, however although Connect is allegedly AICC compliant, it won't even accept the published AICC package that CourseLab provides. After unzipping and looking at the files I think one problem is that there is no 'index.html' file at the root of the package, which Connect requires. Also, I believe this index.html is supposed to be a frameset with a hidden frame containing the tracking object/communication data to Connect. Has anyone gotten a CourseLab course to work in Adobe Connect/Breeze?

Hi, Mark!
Requirement of index.html has no deal with AICC standard - if Connect requires that, then it is specific Connect feature. By standard start file must be taken from .au package file. The same thing with tracking - standard does not require any special tracking agent placing. In CourseLab case all the tracking is already in runtime files.
It seems that in your case you need to make some replacements:
1. Unpack zip
2. In every module folder (folder with number names) rename start.html into index.html
3. Find the file with .au extension. Open it with Notepad. Find the starting URIs (smth like "1/start.html" etc.) and replace start.html by index.html.
4. Zip the course the same way it was zipped.

Hope it will help...

Thanks for the response! I'm going to tinker with the info you provided, however I'm pretty sure it won't work without further tweaking. Adobe Connect requires that in the root of the zip file is an index.html file that opens a frameset.

I'm guessing at this point my best bet would be to publish something using one of Adobe's tools that are designed to work with Connect, test to make sure it works, then use the aicc tracking package that was created as my baseline. I was hoping someone out there would have done this already but it appears that no one is using Adobe Connect Training for anything other than Captivate or PPT to Flash content (via Adobe Presenter Plugin for PowerPoint). I hate ppt as a development environment for my elearning and fine Captivate to be somewhat limiting as well : (

All of the original Macromedia e-learning packages, usually learning site and it's subsequent vairients did use the conventional index.htm and yes it did have a hidden frameset where the API links were hidden.
I don't think that for SCORM or AICC it is actually a requirement to start from anywhere specific, its Macromedias way of doing it. Have you tried the specific fora for an answer?
If you want to change the courselab structure to match this then you may be able to open it in Dreamweaver and rename the starter file to index. DW will update all the links in most of the code... Where it can that is.
If I get time I might try it and see what happens in DW8 and CS3

BTW exe www.exelearning.org has a generic IMS export that would work but it has a lack of features when compared to courselab. You need to get in and add code to get the kind of results that Courselab rather makes so easy to generate!
